Lucknow: Political activity has intensified in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the upcoming elections for 10 Rajya Sabha seats. Meanwhile, reports that renowned poet and speaker Kumar Vishwas has been included in the list of probable candidates being considered by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have attracted widespread attention.
It is also being reported that the BJP’s probable panel includes the names of several other senior leaders, including former Union Minister Smriti Irani and current Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.
Kumar Vishwas, one of the country’s best-known poets and public speakers, also has considerable political experience. He was one of the early and prominent figures of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). He contested the 2014 Lok Sabha election from the Amethi constituency but was unsuccessful.
Since parting ways with the Aam Aadmi Party, there has been considerable speculation about Vishwas’s political future. Now, with reports suggesting that his name has appeared on the BJP’s probable candidate panel, speculation has once again intensified over whether he could begin a second innings in active politics.
The Uttar Pradesh BJP has reportedly submitted a panel of names to the party’s central leadership following discussions at the state level over candidates for the Rajya Sabha seats. Kumar Vishwas’s name is said to have been proposed alongside those of several senior and organisational leaders of the party.
However, the final decision on the candidates will be taken by the BJP’s central leadership, and the party has not yet officially announced its nominees.
Voting for Uttar Pradesh’s 10 Rajya Sabha seats is scheduled for October 16, and the candidate-selection process is reportedly in its final stages. Until the BJP makes an official announcement, the names currently being discussed remain part of ongoing deliberations and speculation over the party’s possible nominees.
