Weather Disrupts Opposition Campaign; INDIA Alliance Postpones Event

New Delhi. Due to a sudden change in weather conditions and heavy rainfall in Delhi, the opposition’s proposed “public impeachment” event against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has been postponed for the time being. Organized by the INDIA alliance, the event was scheduled to take place at the official residence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.

The opposition parties had planned to use this platform to question the central government and the Election Commission over serious issues, including alleged irregularities in electoral rolls, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, and allegations of vote theft.

Initially, larger venues such as Talkatora Stadium and the Constitution Club were considered for the event. However, due to a lack of permission, Kharge’s residence was eventually selected as the venue.

According to sources, the public impeachment event is now expected to take place on October 31. The proposed date falls just one day before the opposition alliance’s massive rally at Ramlila Maidan.

Several senior leaders of the INDIA bloc, including Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Jairam Ramesh, K.C. Venugopal, former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, Trinamool Congress leader Derek O’Brien, Samajwadi Party leaders Harendra Malik and Awadhesh Prasad, and CPI(M) leader John Brittas, attended a preparatory meeting to finalize the event’s arrangements and agenda.

Reacting to the developments, Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, stated that a massive march to Ramlila Maidan would be held the day after the event.

He urged people from all sections of society, including social activists, non-political organizations, civil society groups, and journalists, to participate in the movement to safeguard the country’s democratic institutions.

Rahul Gandhi alleged that the actions of the central government and the Election Commission were collectively undermining the democratic system. He further accused the administration of attempting to prevent people from participating in the protest.
