Ektanagar Tourism Set for Major Boost as PM Modi Launches Development Projects Worth Over ₹400 Crore

Narmada, Gujarat, October 31, 2026: Ektanagar, home to the world-famous Statue of Unity, is poised to strengthen its position as a leading international tourist destination following the launch of several major infrastructure and tourism development projects. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for projects worth over ₹400 crore in Ektanagar on Saturday, October 31, 2026.

The projects are aimed at transforming Ektanagar into a world-class tourism hub by improving accommodation, transportation, recreational facilities, environmental sustainability, and visitor experiences. The initiatives are also expected to generate employment opportunities, support local businesses, and contribute significantly to the economic development of Gujarat’s Narmada district.

One of the major highlights of the development programme is a modern hotel constructed by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) near Ektanagar Railway Station.

Developed at an estimated cost of ₹52.50 crore, the hotel is spread across approximately two acres and features 127 rooms in four different categories to accommodate tourists with varying budgets and preferences.

The hotel offers a range of modern amenities, including a restaurant, cafeteria, banquet hall, conference facilities, and a swimming pool. These facilities are designed to cater to families, domestic and international tourists, business travellers, and visitors attending conferences and special events.

Its strategic location near Ektanagar Railway Station is expected to provide convenient accommodation for tourists arriving by train, reducing travel time and improving connectivity to the Statue of Unity and nearby attractions.

With more than 30 million visitors reportedly having travelled to the Statue of Unity since its inauguration, the demand for quality accommodation has increased considerably. The new hotel is expected to help meet this growing demand while encouraging tourists to extend their stays in the region.

Alongside improvements in hospitality infrastructure, the government has introduced several eco-tourism and environmental development initiatives aimed at enhancing Ektanagar’s natural beauty while promoting sustainable tourism.

Among the important projects are the development of the Unity Trail and Eco Trail, which are intended to provide visitors with opportunities to explore the region’s scenic landscapes, forests, and natural surroundings.

These trails are expected to encourage nature-based tourism, outdoor recreation, and environmentally responsible travel.

The development programme also includes improvements to the existing rainforest attractions, creating a more engaging experience for visitors interested in biodiversity, nature conservation, and ecological tourism.

The beautification and modernisation of Narmada Ghat form another important component of the development initiative.

The proposed improvements include enhanced lighting, upgraded public spaces, and better facilities for visitors. These measures are expected to make the riverfront more attractive, particularly during the evening hours.

The development of Khalvani Eco-Tourism facilities is also included in the programme. Khalvani, known for its natural surroundings and recreational attractions, has the potential to attract more visitors seeking peaceful environments and outdoor experiences.

By improving infrastructure at these locations, the government aims to distribute tourist activity across multiple attractions rather than concentrating visitors exclusively around the Statue of Unity.

The integrated development of the Cactus Garden and Butterfly Garden is another significant aspect of the tourism expansion programme.

Both attractions have become important components of Ektanagar’s growing tourism network, offering visitors educational and recreational experiences connected to plant diversity and environmental conservation.

The proposed improvements are expected to enhance visitor facilities, landscaping, accessibility, and the overall presentation of these gardens.

The Cactus Garden showcases a variety of cactus and succulent species, while the Butterfly Garden provides an opportunity to learn about butterflies, their habitats, and their ecological importance.

The development of these attractions is expected to strengthen Ektanagar’s appeal as a destination for families, students, nature enthusiasts, and educational tour groups.

Environmental sustainability is a major focus of the development programme.

An Integrated Zero-Waste Smart Solid Waste Management Project is among the initiatives intended to improve waste collection, segregation, processing, and disposal in the tourism region.

As visitor numbers continue to increase, effective waste management has become essential for maintaining cleanliness and protecting the surrounding environment.

The initiative is expected to promote more efficient waste-handling practices and reduce the environmental impact of tourism-related activities.

The development of Gor-Bhadra Road is also included in the infrastructure programme. Improved road connectivity is expected to facilitate smoother transportation and provide better access to nearby tourist destinations.

The development projects also include improvements to water management and sanitation infrastructure.

Water and sewage treatment facilities are intended to support the growing requirements of hotels, commercial establishments, residential areas, and tourism attractions.

These projects are expected to improve wastewater treatment, promote efficient water management, and reduce the risk of environmental pollution.

Strengthening basic infrastructure is considered particularly important as Ektanagar continues to attract large numbers of domestic and international visitors.

The Statue of Unity, dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, has emerged as one of India’s most prominent tourist attractions since its inauguration on October 31, 2018.

Standing 182 metres tall, the monument is recognised as the world’s tallest statue and has played a major role in transforming the surrounding region into a significant tourism destination.

Over the years, Ektanagar has developed a range of attractions, including the Valley of Flowers, Jungle Safari, Cactus Garden, Butterfly Garden, and various recreational and cultural facilities.

The latest development projects are expected to complement these existing attractions and strengthen Ektanagar’s position on the international tourism map.

The investment of more than ₹400 crore is expected to provide a substantial boost to the local economy by generating direct and indirect employment opportunities.

The expansion of hotel accommodation, transportation facilities, restaurants, recreational services, and tourism infrastructure could create additional jobs for local residents.

Small businesses, shopkeepers, taxi operators, tour guides, handicraft sellers, restaurant owners, and hospitality service providers are also expected to benefit from increased tourist activity.

Longer visitor stays could lead to higher spending on accommodation, food, shopping, and local transportation, helping circulate tourism revenue throughout the region.

The development initiatives may also encourage private investment in hospitality, travel services, and tourism-related enterprises.

The latest infrastructure projects reflect the government’s broader efforts to develop Ektanagar as a modern, sustainable, and internationally competitive tourism destination.

By combining improved hospitality facilities, environmental conservation, efficient waste management, better connectivity, and expanded recreational attractions, the development programme seeks to create a more comprehensive tourism experience.

The initiatives are expected to strengthen Ektanagar’s reputation beyond the Statue of Unity, positioning the region as a destination offering cultural heritage, natural beauty, adventure, education, and leisure activities.

With continued investment in infrastructure and tourism services, Ektanagar could become an increasingly important contributor to Gujarat’s tourism economy while creating new opportunities for local communities.
