Oman Strengthens Diplomatic Efforts to Restore Peace in Yemen; Foreign Minister and UN Special Envoy Hold Crucial Talks in Muscat

Muscat: As part of intensifying diplomatic efforts to establish lasting peace in Yemen, which has faced crisis due to years of internal conflicts and political instability, Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi and the United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, held a meeting. The talks took place in Oman’s capital, Muscat, on 8 November 2026, where the current political and security situation in Yemen and the prospects for advancing the peace process were discussed in detail.

The primary focus of the discussion was to provide further support to the UN-led efforts aimed at restoring peace and political stability in Yemen and to strengthen diplomatic interventions at the regional level. Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah Al Hinai, the Roving Ambassador at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman, also participated in the meeting.

The two sides conducted a detailed assessment of the latest developments concerning the Yemeni crisis. They focused on ongoing political divisions and security challenges within the country that pose obstacles to peace efforts. The rising regional conflicts in West Asia that further complicate Yemen’s situation were also taken into consideration.

It was emphasized during the meeting that the conflict in Yemen cannot be resolved solely through military means and that inclusive political dialogues involving all parties are the essential path toward sustainable peace. Both sides discussed the necessity of creating a conducive environment to resume the long-stalled formal political talks.

Special attention was given to the UN’s peace initiatives aimed at de-escalating the conflict, building mutual trust, and exploring opportunities for political reconciliation. It was acknowledged that cooperation from the international community and regional countries is indispensable for resolving differences among Yemen’s various political factions through dialogue.

Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi reiterated Oman’s strong commitment to protecting Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, independence, and regional security. He stated that Oman prioritizes a peaceful and political resolution to the Yemeni crisis and stressed the importance of all conflict parties giving precedence to dialogue and mutual understanding over confrontation.

He also underscored that political compromise, with the security and future of the Yemeni people in mind, is the primary way forward from the current crisis. Oman has long been diplomatically engaged in promoting communication among Yemen’s different groups and supporting international peace efforts.

The recent meeting is viewed as a continuation of Oman’s ongoing attempts to maintain dialogue with the involved factions and foster a favorable environment for negotiations. Yemen’s protracted internal conflicts have severely impacted civilian life, causing deterioration in infrastructure, economic crises, food security challenges, and limitations in healthcare services, all of which have worsened the public’s suffering.

In this context, resolving Yemen’s political crisis is crucial not only for national security and stability but also for improving living conditions and alleviating humanitarian distress. Successful peace efforts are expected to pave the way for the country’s reconstruction and economic revival.

The Muscat meeting notably highlighted the importance of including all Yemeni factions in serious and constructive political dialogues. It also focused on the need to find practical methods to end the conflict by fostering mutual trust and cooperation.

The ultimate aim of the peace efforts is a comprehensive political solution that safeguards the country’s unity and sovereignty while addressing the aspirations and needs of the Yemeni people. The dialogue between Oman’s Foreign Minister and the UN Special Envoy is anticipated to inject new momentum into the Yemeni peace process amid the complex political climate in West Asia.

The discussions in Muscat underscored the ongoing necessity to strengthen diplomatic engagement to achieve stability and security that will bring about an end to the conflict.
