Kolkata: West Bengal’s Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the INDIA alliance over a rally held in Delhi a few days earlier to protest alleged electoral irregularities. Speaking to reporters at Bagdogra Airport, Adhikari accused senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of joining hands to protect illegal immigrants residing in the country.
Responding to questions from reporters at Bagdogra Airport, the senior BJP leader claimed that while the central government and the Election Commission were making concerted efforts to identify and remove illegal immigrants, opposition parties were resisting these measures.
He strongly criticised Mamata Banerjee’s participation in the INDIA alliance rally held at the historic Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on November 1. In a sarcastic remark, Adhikari claimed that Banerjee’s political standing in the state had declined to the point where she was no longer invited to inaugurate major Durga Puja celebrations at the local level.
Intensifying his attack on Rahul Gandhi and Mamata Banerjee, Suvendu Adhikari alleged that the two leaders were working together to protect illegal immigrants in India.
He claimed that the primary objective of the central government and the Election Commission was to identify and expel foreign infiltrators, while opposition leaders such as Banerjee and Gandhi were attempting to prevent their removal from the country.
Meanwhile, Adhikari is scheduled to attend a series of BJP organisational programmes in North Bengal, along with other scheduled events in the region.
