Thrissur: A new chapter of happiness unfolds in the life of Shruti, who lost her family members in the Wayanad Chooralmala landslide disaster and later lost her fiancé in a road accident. After a life marked by calamities and enduring sorrow, Shruti has embraced a new light of hope by getting married. Her life partner is Sandeep Shankaran, a colleague from the Mananthavady Collectorate. The wedding ceremony held at Guruvayur was graced by K. Rajan, former Minister and MLA of the Revenue Department, who led the event as the guardian of the bride.
The Wayanad Chooralmala-Mundakkai landslide disaster on July 30, 2024, which brought Kerala to tears, inflicted irreparable losses on Shruti's life. She lost nine close relatives, including her parents and siblings, in this catastrophic event. In a moment, her family, home, and all joys of life vanished, leaving her shattered and uncertain about her future. However, amidst this dark period of despair, Shruti found solace in her fiancé, Jensen. He supported her emotionally, striving to bring her back to life and stand as her pillar of strength. Even amidst the anguish of the tragedy, preparations for their impending marriage were underway.
Fate, however, dealt another cruel blow. Just days before their wedding, Jensen died in a motor vehicle accident. The sequence of calamities completely devastated Shruti’s life. Losing the loved one she had believed would stand by her after her family was wiped out was an unimaginable trauma. Kerala embraced Shruti’s grief as its own that day, with many individuals from social, cultural, and political spheres, as well as the general public, offering comfort and support.
During this turbulent phase, the state government extended a helping hand by providing Shruti with a job in the Revenue Department. The position at the Mananthavady Collectorate became a new turning point in her life, aiding her to rebuild confidence and stand independently despite harsh past experiences. It was while working at the Collectorate that Sandeep Shankaran entered Shruti’s life. For Shruti, carrying the memories of disaster and pain of loss, this relationship became an opportunity to step forward into a new life.
Deciding to continue their journey with mutual trust and love, Shruti and Sandeep were married in Guruvayur. K. Rajan MLA, who had been by Shruti’s side as a guardian throughout the critical phases of her life, was also present at the wedding ceremony. During the Wayanad tragedy, K. Rajan was the Revenue Minister and had supported Shruti through her crisis. His presence at the wedding was highly notable.
K. Rajan described Shruti’s marriage as an occasion of joy that brings happiness to all Malayalis. He stated that after passing through immense pain and loss, Shruti’s entry into a new life is very heartening. He also emphasized that he had always strived to stand by and support Shruti during her difficult times.
As the wounds of the Wayanad disaster remain fresh in Kerala’s collective memory, Shruti’s step towards a new life after losing everything in the same tragedy resonates deeply. Although memories of the loved ones lost will never fade, this marriage grants Shruti the strength and hope to move forward alongside those memories. Once seen as a symbol of disaster and tears, Shruti has transformed into an emblem of resilience and hope. Leaving behind days filled with tears and waiting, she now steps into a new life hand in hand with Sandeep, carrying with her Kerala’s love and best wishes. This wedding at Guruvayur is also a message of hope—that new dreams can blossom even in lives shattered by calamities.
